A talk with our very own trailblazer

While most students have spent their holiday catching up on sleep and studies, final year student Nandipha Jack was out conquering the four-day Inca trail to Machu Picchu in South America. Jack was chosen to accompany the Vice-Chancellor and his team as they tackle the 43km hike in aid of the #Trailblazing campaign from 1 to 4 September. After being chosen to join the team for her leadership skills, physical finesse and the overall inspiring person that she is, we caught up with Jack and found out how we can become trailblazers in our own lives.

What are you most excited about as you prepare for the #Trailblazing climb?

“I’m excited about flying international; Christmas really came early for me! I’m excited about, well, everything. It is my first time experiencing everything so everything is exciting!”

How do you suggest students can become trailblazers in their own lives?

“Always be the best you. Everyone has a story to tell, so use it to inspire and change others to become the best version they can be. Like Mahatma Gandhi said, be the change you want to see in the world.”

What is one piece of advice that you can give to students as they head into their final stretch of the academic year?

“Never give up on your dreams. Keep the focus and focus on your goals. Only you and God know how much it means to you to have a qualification, so the key is to remind yourself why you are doing this and what it means to you.”
