Helping Others is all the RAGE this Month
In 2013 the RAGE (Remember and Give Extra) Campaign, formed by the Student Representative Council (SRC) created a social programme that focused on the development of disabled students at NMMU. This year, the Rage Campaign has once again seen a need for students on Campus; especially those who rely on Campus Health and those who were denied funds from the National Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
The RAGE Campaign will run throughout the course of August, hosting many events and fundraisers. The aims of the Campaign are to raise a minimum of R27 000 strictly from the students, a minimum of 27 000 tins of non-perishable foods as well as to make it a national campaign. The collected tins will go towards the Campus Clinic Feeding Scheme and the money will go towards the Bailout Fund that will help students who do not receive the money promised to them by the NSFAS.
Anele Zondi, the Deputy President of the SRC, is excited about the support received from Student Governance and Development. “Getting support from all student leaders, including in residences and societies will shape the way for [the] Campaign,” he said.
The Realising Every Dream Organisation (RED Org) is a student-run organisation that focuses on students on community development on campus. “Having their support will provide direction for the RAGE Campaign as they focus specifically on these kinds of campaigns,” Zondi stated.
“Madibaz Radio has gained a good listenership over the past 6 months. Having their support will help to make this a national campaign.” Zondi explained, saying that it is crucial for any campaign to have good marketing, and Madibaz Radio is just the tool they need.
The RAGE Campaign will be making use of students as volunteers this month-especially for their tin collections around campus and helping to sort through the donations of tins that they are hoping to receive. The campaign also relies on word-of-mouth advertising.
For those who cannot get involved as a volunteer, there will be the RAGE festival happening on 29 August which will be a massive celebration for all that the Campaign achieves. This will be the last form of fundraising for the Campaign and will see some local and national acts.
Keep an eye out on Communique emails throughout the course of this month to find out where the drop-off zones are for food and where you can find tins to donate your R 10.
