Madibaz off to a Shaky Start

With the Varsity soccer season having kicked off on Monday on the 20th July, the NMMU Madibaz soccer team began their campaign with a goalless draw against the Vaal University of Technology. This result left much to be desired, but was only followed by a 1-0 loss to the University of Witwatersrand (Wits) in their clash on Monday night, 26th July. However the Madibaz are not counting themselves out just yet, with Coach Graeme Harrison saying, “It was a very close game and I wouldn’t say that Wits necessarily dominated us. I think we just had a lapse of concentration for a while, which allowed them to sneak in a goal.” Wits managed to find a way past the NMMU defense mid-way through the second half through substitute, Graeme Dor, which was enough to secure the win for the home team. The Madibaz were dealt a huge blow when star striker was side-lined within the first five minutes with a shoulder injury. The loss left the Madibaz languishing third from the bottom in sixth position.
