How You Can Implement Random Acts of Kindness in Your Everyday Life

We often see people on the television volunteering their services in war-stricken countries or in countries that were hit by natural disasters. We admire these people – their selflessness, courage, and determination. Many of us, too, want to get involved in such initiatives. Whether it is volunteering at a local animal shelter or working at a soup kitchen, many of us have the inherent need to help others.

As students, we lead stressful – often crazy – lives. The avalanche of university work, 7:45 lectures, part-time jobs and socialising sometimes leave no time in the day to give back to the community. This is where the Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) campaign comes in. The RAK initiative has taken the world by storm, encouraging people of all nations, races, ages and cultures to help others in small but incredible ways.

Here are some ideas of how you can perform random acts of kindness:

  • Buy someone a cup of coffee or tea. This is definitely needed during exams and for the last-minute writing of assignments.

  • Make a couple of extra sandwiches so that you can distribute them to people begging on the side of the road while driving to university.

  • Compliment someone. This can make someone’s day significantly better and it requires no money – perfect for anyone on a student budget.

  • Donate clothes or unwanted things to a local charity. This will not only benefit the charity but it will also motivate you to get rid of things you do not need.

  • Volunteer at Animal Welfare. You can spend a couple of hours walking the dogs or playing with the cats. Random acts of kindness are not exclusive to human beings and this is perfect for any animal lover.

  • Tutor someone. If you are academically gifted or have an aptitude for a particular subject, why not share your knowledge? You can tutor a fellow classmate or children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Tutoring others will not only empower them, but it will also help you revise – especially if exams are around the corner.

  • Open the door for someone else. This may seem like an insignificant action but it will definitely make a difference when everyone is rushing to his or her next lecture.

These are just some of the many examples of random acts of kindness. Just enter ‘random acts of kindness’ in the search box of any social media site and you will see the countless amazing things people from all around the world have done to help others.
