Youth Citizen of the Year Awards Setting the Bar High
Boasting the good spirit of Ubuntu are three of NMMU’s very own students, who have been selected as finalists for the Herald General Motors Youth Citizen of the Year award. Sinovuyo Ndindwa (21), Ryan Karshagen (20) and Amandla Didiza (23) along with two other finalists are relying on votes from the public to help them win this prestigious award.
The award, which is aimed at recognising individuals who have gone far beyond the extra mile in service to others and their communities, seems nothing short of what these three students are achieving through their community outreach programs.

Ndindwa, a Bcom Accounting student, spends his holidays tutoring high school pupils in his hometown of Zwelithsa with his organization, Imbewu for the Future, which he started himself. Ndindwa also has plans to assist older businessmen and women from the area.
Karshagen, a BA English and History student, gives back to the community by being an ambassador and volunteer at the Unity in Africa Foundation. This foundation promotes the development of students in all phases of education, from early childhood to tertiary learning.
Didiza, a BA Law student, was appointed as the global youth ambassador for A World at School last year. Along with his ambassadorship Didiza also organises talks for students on the importance of staying in school and seeking further education.
