Go Madibaz, Go!

I went to my first Varsity soccer football match last night. I may have left it a little late as I am in my third year of study and on the verge of (hopefully) graduating. But better late than never, and it was better.

I really enjoyed myself. Everything worked, from the energy on the field to the energy off the field. We have a vibe. Us, NMMU, the university who is infamous fornot having a vibe. All that was missing was a crowd of actual NMMU students. Sure, football is our university’s winter sport and it is all too easy to use the “it’s too cold to go all the way out to varsity tonight” excuse. But take it from a guy who still refers to sports teams as “the red team” and “the red and blue team” – you will not be disappointed.

We have a football team who are only going from strength to strength and a cheerleading squad who could dance circles around the cast from any one of the 17Step Up films (please stop making Step Up films). Seriously, these girls and guys won a national cheerleading competition in Potchefstroom earlier this year. It’s kind of a big deal. Besides this, we have a full-on brass band jazzing up the grandstand and a bunch of half time competitions for the crowd.

This is our vibe. Let’s grow it. It may not be the biggest, but it’s our vibe. And that’s not bad at all for a university who is technically only a ten year old.
