The Five Best Things About Being at NMMU
Have you ever received a lecture about being grateful for all you have and being more appreciative… I know, I know, what a drag, right? I recently received a sermon from my mom about not taking anything for granted because, ‘someone, somewhere out there is praying for a fraction of the things you have’. This got me thinking, especially in the midst of the NMMU Vice Chancellor’s big #climb4nmmu campaign raising funds for needy and academically deserving students. I thought to myself, where else would you find a VC willing to move mountains, or in this case, climb a mountain for the sake of providing funds for his students? You guessed it, only at NMMU, which brings me to this impromptu countdown of all the things I personally find great about being at NMMU. Here goes nothing!
Nature right on the doorstep of South Campus, NMMU.
5. We’ve got one of the most state-of-the-art, Eco-friendly buildings such as the internationally recognized Business School at Second Avenue, as well as the Missionvale Campus Library. We are definitely a trendy, futuristic university, always looking to better ourselves and kudos to all the “going green” efforts.
4. We’ve got a nature reserve right on the doorstep of our lecture halls. You get to enjoy the vast greenery, the wild veld and the wildlife on a young walk to your next lecture venue.
3. When you’re on campus, eating the junk food you promised yourself you were giving up to start a new healthier lifestyle and get closer to that summer body you’ve been dying for; the monkeys are always willing to step in and save your diet with a reprimanding snatch-and-grab of your goodies on sight. Aren’t they the cutest little bullies? (NOT).
2. We’ve got the biggest talent that is exhibited and showcased “by the students for the students” (see what I did there?). Lunchtime performances are definitely a thing, so if you’ve been missing out, check out the communiques for the next time you’re free for lunch.
1. We’ve got the world’s best and fittest VC! Kudos to his climb for NMMU initiative that has since raised over R1 million for needy and academically deserving students. He definitely talks and walks the walk. Aluta continua, Prof. Derrick Swartz!
So count all those blessings, NMMU has so much to offer. Make use of opportunities and remember; someone, somewhere out there is praying to be at our beloved NMMU.
